Common Questions – Experiential Assistant Learning Community (EALC)

What will I be doing?

  • You will be facilitating small experiential groups
  • Supporting participants in practicing AEDP interventions
  • Providing feedback and guidance aligned with AEDP principles
  • Participating in daily debriefs with other assistants

As an assistant, what’s the time investment like?

  • The course hours – the length of the experiential day plus;
  • A one-hour debrief after each session
  • A one-hour meeting before the course starts with the Lead Assistant
  • Optional EA Learning Community events

What if I don’t feel ready?

  • Quarterly training is provided through the Learning Community to everyone – even if you have not assisted yet. 
  • Expect ongoing support from Lead Assistants and Faculty during the course
  • It’s normal to feel uncertain – that’s part of the growth process!

What support is available during a course?  

  • Pre-course Meetings with Lead Assistants 
  • Daily debrief meetings with Lead Assistants and other assistants
  • Lead Assistants available for questions throughout the course
  • Access to EA Learning Community resources (ongoing, ask us!)

What is a debrief session?

  • An hour-long discussions after each course day
  • An opportunity to share experiences and challenges
  • Your chance to receive guidance from Lead Assistants and/or faculty 
  • An opportunity to connect with and learn from fellow assistants

How will I know how to handle challenging participants?

  • Lead Assistants will provide guidance
  • There are clear protocols for escalating concerns 
  • There’s an emphasis on maintaining therapeutic frame 

Are CE credits available?

  • Yes, you must attend entire course/module for CE credit
  • Credits align with APA and state board requirements (ask Mariia if you have any questions admin@test.aedpinstitute.org)
  • Documentation provided upon completion

How does assisting count toward Certification?

  • Assisting hours count toward AEDP certification after assisting in 10 ES Modules or 1 full ES1 + 5 Advanced Skills Modules
  • Opportunity to deepen understanding of the model
  • Direct experience with diverse clinical presentations
  • Professional networking opportunities

How can I make the most of the experience?

  • Actively participate in debriefs
  • Take advantage of training resources
  • Build relationships with other assistants
  • Use the experience to refine your own AEDP skills
